Description

DeKalb County’s Sustainability Plan aims to promote and implement responsible management and effective stewardship of the County’s built and natural environments. To do so, the County wishes to develop sustainable energy and water efficiency strategies as well as land use and transportation policies that maximize the opportunity for cost savings, environmental benefits, and economic development.

Scope of Services

The Collaborative Firm provides expertise on land use planning and sustainability issues. In this project the Firm partnered with a diverse team led by SL King & Associates. As a key member of the team, the Firm utilized its experience and collaborative approach to develop a set of integrated transportation and land use planning policies that will help DeKalb become a truly sustainable community.

Value-Added Accomplishments

The Collaborative Firm was a vital member of the Sustainability team from vision and research through the final report.  Firm professionals helped forge the tone and structure of the final report and recommended an integrated land use and transportation approach. The Firm’s comprehensive survey of land use regulations and County codes, as well as interviews with planning staff, clarified the current status of regulation and unveiled several options for moving forward. The Firm’s expertise in sustainability helped mold the final report into an integrated whole that will serve as the benchmark as the County continues to work towards a more sustainable future.
