Newton County Planning and Development Assessment
Supplemental Planning Services
In 2003, Newton County was named one the ten fastest
growing counties in the United States. In an effort to
assist with growth and development, The Collaborative
Firm, LLC was selected to streamline and improve the
Planning and Development Department. The firm
evaluated the existing planning and development
program and provided an assessment of existing and
required staff capabilities. Upon completion of the
assessment, the Firm made recommendations for
changes in procedures and methods of communication
to make the department more effective and efficient.
Some of the implemented changes include permit
tracking software, customer service improvements,
streamlined processes for staff zoning analysis, timelines
and accountability for the development review process
and zoning process, and policy changes to the
Comprehensive Plan, Zoning Ordinance and Subdivision
Regulations.
