Lauren BlasyzkAs Manager of Planning & Economic Development, Lauren Blaszyk provides a broad range of planning experience to the firm in the areas of land use, zoning, economic development, transportation, development review, historic preservation, and policy research. Her diverse skill set comes from working in municipalities in the metropolitan Atlanta area as well as in the private sector.

Prior to joining The Collaborative Firm, Lauren served as Policy Analyst for the Council for Quality Growth, tracking policy changes in cities and counties throughout metropolitan Atlanta that affected the planning and development industry. She was also the staff liaison for the Council’s DeKalb Advisory Committee. Prior to her work at the Council for Quality Growth, Lauren worked as the Economic Development/Main Street Coordinator for the City of Norcross. In Norcross, Lauren implemented the Main Street Historic Preservation Program for the city, as well as revived the city’s Downtown Development Authority, for which she was the staff contact and Secretary. She also oversaw the creation of design guidelines and the way-finding signage program for Downtown Norcross, including sign design and placement. Early in her career, Lauren worked as a Planner for the City of Fayetteville, where she worked directly with the public, developers, and City staff on planning and zoning issues and projects, reviewed development plans, performed research for the Planning Director, and drafted Zoning Ordinance amendments.

Lauren also has extensive experience in the private sector, including Project Associate for Market Street Services, an Atlanta based economic development consulting firm. As an Associate at Catherine Ross & Associates/Presnell Associates, Lauren worked on a number of transportation planning projects, including a Feasibility Study of the Eastern Connector in Columbus, Georgia; the evaluation of alternative corridors for Indiana State Route 25 between Lafayette and Logansport; preliminary Environmental Justice Evaluation for the US 27 Widening Project in LaGrange, Georgia; and public involvement and outreach components of a number of projects for Fulton County and the Georgia Department of Transportation. She also assisted in the creation of a Master Plan for the Warsaw area of North Fulton County.


City of College Park Planning & Zoning Services
In 2012, The Collaborative Firm was selected to provide City Planning Services for the City of College Park. Through this engagement, Lauren is involved in handling day to day planning and zoning inquiries, reviewing business license applications, providing zoning certification letters, drafting a number of Zoning Ordinance amendments requested by City staff as well as Mayor and Council, consulting on prospective new developments in the City, and coordinating with City staff on planning and zoning related issues.

Newton County Planning Services
In April 2013, The Collaborative Firm was selected to provide Planning Services for Newton County. Under this arrangement, Lauren works closely with County Development Services Department staff in the review of applications for cell tower co-locations, answering planning and zoning inquiries, and performing policy-related research on various planning and zoning issues facing the County.

Economic Development Plan for the State of West Virginia
Served as consultant project manager responsible for retrieving and analyzing economic and demographic data, incorporating data into a variety of reports and documents drafted for client including Economic & Demographic Profiles, Community Input Summaries, and Economic Development Strategies.

Economic Development Plan for the Indiana Department of Commerce
Provided review and analysis of existing conditions, needs assessment, facilitation of stakeholder groups to identify needs, development of recommendations related to Economic Development strategies and project prioritization.

Market Street Services
While working as a Project Associate at Market Street Services, Lauren was responsible for retrieving and analyzing economic and demographic data. She incorporated this data into a variety of documents drafted for clients, including Economic & Demographic Profiles, Community Input Summaries, Economic Development Strategies, Workforce Development Strategies, and Best Practices Reports. She also coordinated and participated in project-related meetings, including the presentation of documents and findings to clients and the public. Lauren worked on a diverse range of projects while at Market Street Services, including a Workforce Development Plan for Columbus, Georgia; Economic Development Plan for the State of West Virginia; Economic Development Plan for the Indiana Department of Commerce; and the Lynchburg, Virginia 20/20 Economic Development Plan.
